USA vs. Mexico

I read THIS article today and it got me thinking...Will soccer divide our two nations, as the trend currently suggests, or will it unite us?

There has been much discussion lately about the possible rise of hooliganism in the USA, and while I can easily see groups of kids getting together to imitate what they've seen on YouTube, I doubt we will see true hooligans here. Will there be some parking lot fights between Chivas and Galaxy fans? Yup. When NYC has two teams? No doubt!
Will the media make a HUGE deal out of it? Absolutely!

Thing is, people like to fight, sometimes they just need a good reason. Mix that human trait with the passion of football and tempers will boil over. As a participant in many fraternity brawls, I can tell you for a fact that its also a ton of fun and a unifying event.

Back on topic. As the US and Mexico become more blended together, and as our countries become more powerful footballing nations, I think we will begin to see more respect for each other, and less hatred. After all, with a massive generation of Mexican immigrants comes a massive amount of future Mexican-American national team candidates. Our styles of play will meld together.

This doesn't mean we'll be nice to each other's teams, just not as hateful?

i'm a Fire fan. I've noticed that since it's been announced that Blanco was coming to Chicago there has been a passion that i didn't see in our supporters before this year. and i don't really think it's a beckham-cam like passion at all. it's very much a mexican or foreign passion. i think as we do get more and more players that are mexican-american, american-mexican...whatever...we might start to see a stronger love for the game that we have before..or at least i hope this is the case. now whether or not this leads to hooliganism only time will tell...i honestly hope not. i understand love for the game, i truly do love football/soccer, but when it gets to be a safety issue like it is in England for instance i think it kind of ruins it. one of the beauties of the MLS is that there is tailgating and non-violent comradery before the games...i'm not saying i don't fancy watching a decent throw down..but it just brings so much fear and negativism towards the game..and i really don't think the MLS can afford that on their plate right now.

I say move Chivas USA to Las Vegas...two problems solved. Las Vegas stops fighting for one of the precious expansion spots (that it wouldn't have gotten).

And while you would have separation, you would still have the close proximity and rivalry.

Viva, Chivas Las Vegas!!!

I mean how cool would that sound.
